Meet the Audiologists

Sunnyview Hearing Center’s audiologists are New York State licensed and many are board certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA) or certified by American Speech and Hearing Association.

Chief of Audiology

KEVIN IHRMAN AU.D., FAAA,

Dr. Kevin Ihrman is a New York State licensed Audiologist who is Board Certified in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology. Kevin is the Chief of Audiology at Sunnyview Hospital where he sees patients of all ages. He graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 2001 with a Master of Science Degree in Audiology, where he completed his dissertation on “Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions In Recovering Alcoholics As Compared to Non-Alcoholics.” Dr. Ihrman obtained his Doctorate in Audiology from The George Osborne School of Audiology at Salus University in 2009. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and coauthor of the article “Not Your Grandmother’s CAPD Recommendations.” Dr. Ihrman has had numerous speaking engagements including presentations for the New York Capital Region Tinnitus Support Group, the Educational Audiology Association, the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association convention, and WNYT News Channel 13. Kevin’s specialties include comprehensive audiological evaluations for people of all ages, Central Auditory Processing Disorders (CAPD), hearing aid dispensing, and Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT).

KATHRYN MEADE, AU.D., FAAA

Dr. Kathryn Meade is a New York State licensed Audiologist with 24 years of experience with hearing rehabilitation. She has been with Sunnyview Hospital for 18 years serving a varied caseload from pediatrics to adults. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1991 with a Master of Arts Degree in Audiology and her Doctorate in Audiology from The George Osborne School of Audiology at Salus University in 2009. Dr. Meade is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She moved to the Capital Region in 1993 after completing her Clinical Fellowship in Audiology at University Hospital SUNY Health Sciences Center in Syracuse. Dr. Meade coauthored an article entitled “Not Your Grandmother’s CAPD Recommendations” which has generated several national speaking opportunities. As well, Dr. Meade has been featured on The Health Show on NPR and has been a guest of Bob Barrett on the WAMC Medical Mondays Show. Dr. Meade’s specialties include comprehensive audiological evaluations for people of all ages, Central Auditory Processing Disorders (CAPD), Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Testing, pediatric aural (re)habilitation and educational audiology services, and hearing aid dispensing. Dr. Meade resides locally in Schenectady County, where she and her family enjoy life in the beautiful Mohawk Valley.

JENNIFER KROM, AU.D., FAAA

Dr. Jennifer Krom has been a New York State licensed Audiologist for 26 years, serving Sunnyview Hospital for the past 18 years. Dr. Krom received a Master of Arts degree in Audiology in 1989 from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a Doctorate in Audiology in 2005 from The School of Audiology at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, she is Board Certified in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology. Dr. Krom provides comprehensive audiological evaluations, central auditory processing evaluations, industrial hearing screenings and hearing aid dispensing.

ERIN WINDERL, AU.D., CCC-A, F-AAA

Dr. Erin Winderl is a New York State licensed Audiologist who holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech Hearing Association. She graduated from Syracuse University in 2002 with a Master of Science Degree in Audiology and she obtained her Doctorate in Audiology in 2005 from the School of Audiology at Salus University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, she is Board Certified in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology. Erin’s specialties include comprehensive audiological evaluations for people of all ages, Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing, hearing aid dispensing and VNG/ENG vestibular assessment.

Dr. Nicole Vitale is a New York State licensed Audiologist who is Board Certified in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology. She graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Audiology from St. Johns University in 2000 and obtained her doctorate in Audiology in 2012 from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. Dr. Vitale’s specialties include Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT), comprehensive audiological testing for individuals of various ages, Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing, hearing aid dispensing and VNG/ENG testing.

CAROLINE SWAYNE, AU.D., CCC-A, F-AAA

Dr. Caroline Swayne is a New York State licensed audiologist who is board certified in audiology by the American Board of Audiology, and holds a Clinical Certificate of Competency in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech and Hearing Association. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and a member of the American Auditory Society. She is a task force member for the American Academy of Audiology Professional Development Committee. She graduated with a Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Maryland in 2007 and completed her dissertation at the National Institutes of Health on “The Impact of Rheumatoid Arthritis on Middle Ear Function.” Dr. Swayne’s specialties include VNG/ENG vestibular assessment, comprehensive audiological evaluations for people of all ages, Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing, and hearing aid dispensing. Dr. Swayne is a Shenendehowa High School graduate and returned to the area in 2011 after working as an audiologist for 5 years at a private practice in Maryville, Tennessee.

MARGARET HALINSKI, AU.D., CCC-A, F-AAA

MARGARET HALINSKI, AU.D., CCC-A, F-AAA

Dr. Margaret Halinski is a New York State licensed Audiologist who is Board Certified in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology. She graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL with a Doctor of Audiology degree. Her dissertation was on “Cochlear Inhibition in Musicians and Non-musicians” for which she received the 2014 SIRCA award from the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Dr. Halinski also received a Master of Music degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and is certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. Margaret’s interests in audiology include the pediatric population, central auditory processing evaluations, auditory brainstem response testing, and hearing conservation. In addition, Margaret plays saxophone, clarinet, flute, and oboe and has performed for many theaters in the Chicago area as well as playing for the Chicago Bulls.
